Distance From Cities & Transportation
Merimbula is an approximate three hour drive from the city of Canberra and is located six to seven hours driving north of Melbourne or six hours south of Sydney. The local airport is located on the outskirts of Merimbula and is serviced by regular daily flights to Melbourne and Sydney. Interstate, Regional and local bus services are available. Traffic issues are not usually are concern in this relaxed area although during the peak visitor period over Christmas delays can occur on the Pambula to Merimbula road.

Make the most of the coastal walks dotted all around Merimbula from Rotary Walk to Fishpen, or head north to Bournda National Park with its coastal lagoons and intricate chain of walking trails which weave their way around this picturesque coastal park. Boats head out of Merimbula Bar to explore the stunning coastline or enjoy abundant fishing. The lure of swimming, surfing, wave sailing, canoeing, diving, bushwalking or exploring beckons. Merimbula’s Main Beach has five kilometres to surf, fish or stroll. Entertainment abounds in Merimbula and all ages will find plenty to do here. For the kids there is the Magic Mountain complex with activies such as waterslides, a mountain slide, forest maze, pools, a playground and picnic areas.

Surrounded by Sapphire Coast seafoods, Merimbula’s restaurants create their own style of flavours from fresh local produce. There are a choice of many restaurants and club bistros, all well respected for their excellent cuisine. Seafood is a specialty on many menus and if you love oysters, then you’ll find none better than the Rock oysters found in the Merimbula-Pambula area.
Famous Landmarks
Just south of Merimbula, past Haycock point is Ben Boyd National Park. This park is named after Benjamin Boyd, a prominent 19th-century Far South Coast entrepreneur. Its rugged coastline is a colourful display of folded red rocks, standing out against the sapphire blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. The park has sandy surf beaches, rugged bays, rock platforms, quiet campgrounds, sheltered inlets and historic lighthouses. Its heathlands and forests are home to a variety of plants and animals, including threatened species such as the ground parrot, eastern bristlebird, hooded plover, yellow-bellied glider and long-nosed potoroo. The park was reserved in 1971 and now comprises three sections, north and south of Twofold Bay, and the newer addition north of the Pambula River. The park’s total area is 10,407 hectares. In 1970 the government decided to protect 37 km of ocean frontage by establishing conservation reserves over some 21,450 hectares.
